The Buddha taught that wholesome qualities are cultivated through steady and diligent practice. Just as a jar is gradually filled by falling drops of water, every wholesome thought, word, and action contributes to our path of awakening.
Observing the Eight Precepts offers an opportunity to strengthen ethical discipline, calm the mind, and cultivate wisdom in a supportive environment. By setting aside a day for practice, we learn to live with greater mindfulness, contentment, and clarity.
Guided by Venerable Shi Chuan Jia, this one-day retreat introduces the Eight Precepts and Buddhist etiquette in an approachable and meaningful way. Through Dharma teachings, guided meditation, sutra recitation, prostrations, and quiet reflection, participants will experience how ethical practice can bring greater peace and stability to everyday life.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners, the retreat provides step-by-step guidance in a warm and supportive environment. Whether you are observing the Eight Precepts for the first time or returning to deepen your practice, you are warmly welcome.

About the organiser
We are a contemporary Buddhist community committed to making the Dharma accessible in English. While many Mahāyāna teachings are traditionally shared in Mandarin, our Vihāra offers a space where practitioners can explore Buddhist wisdom in a language that speaks to them. By blending traditional teachings with modern perspectives, we aim to make Buddhist practice both accessible and relevant in today’s world.
At the heart of our community is a shared dedication to learning and practising the Dharma together. We uphold core Buddhist values such as mindfulness, ethical living, and selfless service. Through study, meditation, and compassionate action, we support one another on the path of inner transformation.
