About the organiser

Organiser Description
Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) strives to realise the vision of her founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun. His vision of building a harmonious and compassionate human society as implied in the concept of "Pureland" in Buddhism is by putting wisdom and compassion into action via the promotion of education, Buddhist culture, social welfare services and social togetherness.

The development of Buddhism is dependent on the progress of Buddhist education, art and culture. Since 1997, Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) has been promoting Buddhist education among the younger generation. There are Dharma classes that suit the needs of fellow Buddhists from all ages such as the Children's Dharma classes; City Buddhist college classes and Television Buddhist college classes that aim to bring Buddhist teachings that are relevant to our modern lifestyle; Study groups where members discuss and share their experiences in Dharma practices etc. Prominent speakers, well known for their professional knowledge and humour are invited to give Mandarin and English talks regularly for the benefits of our members and the public. In our premise, there is a teahouse with a gallery of Buddhist artifacts for members and friends to share moments together.

In our life journey, there are times where we are lost and need support from our Dharma friends. There are times where our Dharma friends need our support. Let Fo Guang Shan (Singapore) be the place for us to share and realise our goals and hopes together.

Buddha’s Light International Association Young Adult Division - Singapore Subdivision (BLIA-YAD Singapore). Buddha's Light Association (Singapore) Young Adult Division (YAD) is an International Association under the umbrella of the Buddha's Light International Association.

It was inaugurated on 24 March 1996 in Hsi Lai Temple at Los Angeles, California, USA. In less than six years, it had set up one hundred and eight branches world wide, mobilizing and motivating the local youths to shoulder the task of propagating the Dharma.

With the objective of promoting Venerable Master Hsing Yun's philosophy of 'Humanistic Buddhism', Fo Guan Yuan (Singapore) was set up on 8 December 1996. Her YAD was set up within a month. Thereafter, YAD Singapore was officially inaugurated by Ven Master Hsing Yun on 1 March 1997 in Fo Guan Shan (Taiwan).

Keeping the objectives of the Young Adult Division in mind, YAD Singapore upholds the task to promote Buddhism to the local youths. In the past, we have organized many activities like: 'Book Reading Club for the Youth'; Seminar on the 'Development of the Buddhist Youths'; 'Team Building Camp'; 'Family Telematch' etc. Through these activities, we wish to promote 'Humanistic Buddhism' to the youths so as to lead them to be able to practise Buddhism in their daily lives. This way, the youths will be able to walk the correct path and lead a better life.

We also hope that the YAD would be able to unite the Buddhist Youths for mutual spiritual supports and to contribute to the well being of the country.

Singapore BLIA Young Adult Division welcomes YOU to join us in our activities and help organize events for everybody. Through everybody's efforts, Buddhism will have a brighter tomorrow!
